Gene "Peno" Hester Born: October 5, 1950 Died: March 12, 2024 Gene "Peno" Hester, 73, passed away unexpectedly on March 12, 2024, in Port St. Lucie, Florida. He was born to Richard and Emily (Steffes) Hester on October 5, 1950. He grew up in McHenry. Gene graduated from Marian Central Catholic High School in Woodstock in 1969, where he was an outstanding athlete. He attended St. Ambrose College and graduated from Northern Illinois University. He worked as a Superintendent for the City of McHenry Public Works Department until his retirement in 2005. Gene was a loving son, brother, and uncle. He was a great friend to so many people. He was generous and fun-loving. Peno enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved to golf and hang out with his buddies. He was a lifelong White Sox fan, and a die-hard Packers fan.
