David was born on July 26, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois, to Edward and Virginia (Zalewski) Mates. On November 25, 1967, he married the love of his life, Judy, beginning a marriage filled with love, laughter, and devotion. Together, they shared 57 beautiful years - a partnership filled with unwavering support, joy, and mutual admiration. Dave often joked that he was "spoiled rotten" by Judy, and those who knew them saw firsthand the deep bond they shared. A proud Captain in the United States Marine Corps, Dave carried his sense of duty, discipline, and pride throughout his life.
